MapQuest, one of the pioneers of online mapping, was founded in 1967 as Cartographic Services, later rebranding in 1996. At a time when the internet was just beginning to take off, MapQuest emerged as the go-to platform for finding driving directions. It was one of the first to offer a user-friendly interface that allowed people to easily generate maps and directions by simply entering a start and end location.
